May 2026 Tech Saturday: Build a WSPR Transmitter

Project Goal – We’re launching a club project to deploy multiple GCARC WSPR stations across different ham bands. Participants will build their own WSPR transmitter and help crowd-source spots on a project-specific website.

Tech Saturday Session – Saturday, May 9, 2026 –

Join us at 9:00 AM sharp for a hands-on workshop where we will:

  • Introduce the project
  • Set up the Raspberry Pi (3 or 4)
  • Solder the band-specific components on the TAPR WSPR transmitter board
  • Calibrate and configure the board for operation

Each attendee will leave with a fully assembled and ready-to-use WSPR transmitter that works with any suitable antenna for the chosen band. The session includes some light soldering and basic voltage adjustment.

Registration Options

  • Register and order Complete Kit ($100): Includes Raspberry Pi, programmed MicroSD card, power adapter, and the TAPR WSPR board with BNC-to-PL-259 adapter.
  • Register and order TAPR WSPR Board only ($35): Includes the board and BNC-to-PL-259 adapter (for those supplying their own Raspberry Pi 3 or 4).
  • Register only and provide your own hardware (no charge): You can order the WSPR board from TAPR at https://tapr.org/product/wspr/

If you want to build WSPR stations for multiple bands, you must complete a separate registration to order a WSPR board for each band.

If you are ordering hardware through GCARC, registration and payment is required by Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at midnight so we can order adequate parts and supplies.
